The Hancock Concert Series is pleased to present the debut of the CK Ensemble, a new professional chamber music group, at a concert on Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. The ensemble of cello, flute, and piano, will take listeners on a journey through Germany in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, and then to Russia at the turn of the 20th century.
The CK Ensemble opens their debut performance with works for flute, cello and piano. Included will be works of Müthel, Haydn, and Mendelssohn’s involving the flute, a favored instrument of the aristocracy and of the bourgeoisie around the turn of the 19th century. The program also features Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello & Piano, composed in the same year as his famous second Piano Concerto in 1901. It is simply music for the soul.
The CK Ensemble is a burgeoning chamber music ensemble that melds individual passions, historical knowledge and fresh perspectives. From their eclectic programming, dynamic collaborations, to their memorable music making, the CK Ensemble will be sure to leave an imprint on listeners’ hearts. It is the brainchild of cellist Cherry Kim, a regular guest artist at Hancock Church who has also appeared as soloist with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra and Fall River Symphony. She has performed as a recitalist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, China and Ukraine. Flautist Elżbieta Brandys and pianist Daesik Cha round out the ensemble.
“We’re thrilled to have three new chamber groups debut with us this season,” says Series Director Mark Morgan, who also serves as the Director Music at Hancock Church. “This is an amazing array of international talent performing right here in Lexington.” The Hancock Concert Series is now in its 7th season, which includes 13 concerts in a wide array of styles and genre. Admission is by suggested donation of $15 at the door (maximum of $25 per family,) but all are invited to attend, regardless of ability to pay.
The concert will take place on Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Hancock Church, 1912 Massachusetts Ave in Lexington. Free parking is available and the church is handicap accessible. Further information can be found at www.hancockchurch.org.
