New England Light Opera: Appalachian Voices
The haunting sound of a Cherokee flute draws us deep into the mountains and valleys of Appalachia as we perform art song, sacred song, and folk songs from the heart of the mountains. Join Director of Music Mark Morgan and sopranos Jeanne Lucas and Kaja Fickes, accompanied by Sarah Koonce (piano) and Elke Jahns (Cherokee and western flutes) for this eclectic journey. Featured will be Barber’s Knoxville: Summer 1915, songs by John Jacob Niles, shapenote hymns, spirituals, folksongs–even some bluegrass! And of course that haunting Cherokee flute…
Presented by New England Light Opera as part of the Hancock Concert Series. Additional performances in Melrose and Topsfield. For more information visit www.
